Une chaise en formica ancien modèle, des années 50, que j'ai
recyclée.
Elle n'était pas parfaite au départ, donc gardez en tête que j'ai
relooké pour rendre joli, mais qu'elle ne sera pas comme sortie
d'usine.
J'ai relooké les pieds métallisés en bleu pastel, et le dos du dossier
en formica est rose pastel. Le chant des pièces est peint en vert anis.
Sur l'assise, j'ai créé un tableau, qui est une reproduction à la main
fidèlement de l'oeuvre de Pierre Denys de Montfort, mais souvent
attribuée à tort à Louis Leclerc de Buffon, y compris sur la carte que
j'ai achetée), intitulée "pieuvre géante", et qui date de 1905.
C'est le début d'une série de chaises consacrée au monde
marin, que j'ai appelée "Les Atlantides",
après avoir créé une série de la même facture sur Paris (voir
mon site perso) et une autre série avec des cartes marines
du 16ème siècle intitulée "Les Voyageuses", dont deux sont
listées dans cette boutique).
La pieuvre colossale, ou le calamar géant, hantait l'imaginaire des
marins qui voguaient dans les anciens voiliers, et ce tableau en est
une représentation.
J'ai choisi de reproduire une gravure de poisson volant, datant aussi
des années 1900, sur le dossier.
Cette chaise d'art peut avoir une valeur décorative chez vous, mais elle
peut aussi être utilisée tout à fait normalement, car l'assise et le dossier
sont recouvert d'un film imperméabilisant et transparent qui la protègent.

This is a 50s type of formica chair, that I recycled. Please bear in mind that it was not new at the beginning, so it's not going to look like it was straight out of a factory. I upcycled it to embellish it !
I painted the metallic legs light blue, and the back of the chair is painted in pastel pink. The side of the chair is painted light green.
On the seat, I created a tableau, which is a hand drawn reproduction of an engraving dating back to 1905, called Colossal Octopus, by Pierre Denys de Montfort, but often mistakenly attributed to Louis Leclerc de Buffon, a naturalist.
This is the beginning of a series about the worlds under the sea, that I called "Les Atlantides" (don't know how that translates into English). It's the same kind of upcycling
I did on my other series of chairs, one about Paris, see my "Demoiselles de la Tour Eiffel" and one with marine charts called "Les Voyageuses", two of which are listed in this shop.
The colossal octopus, or giant calamari, was haunting the imagination of sailors who sailed ancient ships. This is what they imagined.
I chose to represent an engraving of a flying fish on the back of the chair, which also dates back to around 1900s.
This art chair can be just decorative at your home, but it can also be used in a normal way, to sit. It has been made water resistant and stain proof with an invisible transparent film on the seat and back, and so you can sit and nothing will happen, it's protected.
